Croatian Literary Translators’ Association / Društvo hrvatskih književnih prevodilaca [Croatia]

Home Centres RECIT Croatian Literary Translators’ Association / Društvo hrvatskih književnih prevodilaca [Croatia]

BRIEF HISTORY

Literary translators and writers residency of the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association is the result of years of effort put into creating a space in Zagreb that would welcome and bring together translators and writers since we strongly believe that working together and getting to know each other lead to better work quality and strengthen and widen cultural relations.

DESCRIPTION

Residency of the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association for literary translators and writers promotes and encourages cooperation with language institutes, language departments at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb and Zadar, publishers, festivals and international networks for residential exchange. Part of the stay of our residents is dedicated to their work on the text which brought them to Zagreb, while the other part includes activities such as panel discussions with fellow translators and writers, workshops and master classes at
the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences as well as tandems with peers and guest appearances at literature festivals.

CONDITIONS

The Croatian Literary Translators’ Association offers two types of residential stays:

  • stays which are free of charge, with an extra daily allowance of €20
  • stays for writers, translators, researchers and academics who need a venue in Zagreb for their short time research and will cover their expenses by their own means (scholarship, project, etc.), as well as participate with €20 daily for their stay in our residency

Residency duration: 1 to 4 weeks

Residency description: room with attached bathroom and access to the shared kitchen.

Contributions during the stay: residents are invited to write a text for the residency blog that is published during or after their stay. They will also be invited to literary meetings, public readings and events at city libraries and to share their know-how with students from Croatian Universities.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The Residency hosts an average of 8 to 15 residents a year, and is open year-long. Call for applications are issued once a year, usually in the beginning of the year.

Eligible candidates: foreign translators and authors (writers and scientists), with at least one published literary work

Application procedure: applications including a biography, a bibliography, a motivation letter, as well as the title of the book on which the candidate wishes to work during his or her stay are to be sent to: rezidencija@dhkp.hr.

Professionals who want to stay in the residency within the frame of their projects covering their daily expenses can contact us all year long.

Selection: the residency program participants are selected through special invitation and through open calls for proposals. In both cases, decisions are taken by the Program Board of the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association and the project coordinator.
