HISTORY
Established in 2022, the Residency of the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association (CLTA / DHKP) represents years of dedicated effort to create a welcoming and productive space in Zagreb for literary translators and writers from around the world.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The CLTA / DHKP Residency supports literary translators who bring the voices of Croatian authors to international audiences, as well as foreign writers whose works are being translated into Croatian and/or who wish to work at the residency on their projects.
Located in the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association’s apartment in central Zagreb, the residency typically hosts 10 to 15 residents per year, with stays lasting from two to four weeks.
While the primary focus of the residency is the resident’s own literary project, other activities may include panel discussions with peers, workshops and masterclasses at the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, public readings, and guest appearances at local literary festivals.
Furthermore, the residency provides an excellent opportunity for guests to immerse themselves in the daily life and vibrant culture of Zagreb, the Croatian capital.
COOPERATION WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONS
The Croatian Literary Translators’ Association (CLTA / DHKP) actively collaborates with language institutes, university departments, publishers, festivals, book clubs, and media outlets. These partnerships facilitate residents’ engagement with the broader Croatian literary community and the public.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Eligible candidates are foreign literary translators and authors with at least one published literary work or translation.
Participants are selected via open calls for proposals or by special invitation. In both instances, the Program Board of the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association (CLTA / DHKP) and the residency coordinator make the final selection.
